The brand: In 1977, the French army adopted the FAMAS (Fusil d'Assaut de la Manufacture d'Armes de Saint-Étienne), replacing the various weapons already in service (the MAS 49/56, the MAT 49 machine pistol and the MAC 24/29 machine gun).
An effective tactical weapon, easy to use and capable of firing PAB grenades, the FAMAS is particularly appealing for its ambidextrous mechanics and its high rate of fire (1100 rounds per minute).
The FAMAS quickly became the benchmark French weapon, produced in France, by a French company, for the French army. Its status abroad is now iconic.
